IH35E Widening – US 77 to Ellis County

I35E Widening

Project Details:

Location: Waxahachie, Texas

Project Value: $117 Million

Overview:

Precision provided Scheduling and Project Controls services for the IH35E Widening from US 77 to Ellis County. The project involved demolition of aging bridges and roadways. In addition, it required culvert installation and significant earthwork activities. As a result, coordination and planning were critical from day one.

Baseline Schedule Development

To begin, Precision developed the baseline schedule using Primavera P6. Each activity was logically tied to reflect construction sequencing. Moreover, all durations were based on crew productivity and scope. The team also included weather contingencies and key milestones.

Next, Precision cost-loaded the schedule using the approved table of values. Every activity had an assigned budget for accurate earned value tracking. Consequently, the team could measure progress against both time and cost baselines.

Project Maintenence

Throughout the project, Precision maintained close communication with the contractor and TXDOT. Weekly meetings ensured all updates reflected actual field conditions. Additionally, the Scheduler worked with engineers to adjust logic for changes in phasing or access.

As work progressed, Precision monitored the critical path continuously. When delays threatened key activities, the team proposed mitigation strategies. For example, some crews were resequenced or shifted to optimize productivity. Thus, impacts were minimized before they affected the overall schedule.

Furthermore, daily reports and three-week look-aheads supported short-term planning. These tools helped identify resource needs and potential risks early. Because of this, decisions were made quickly and with full visibility.

In parallel, the Project Controls team ensured financial tracking stayed accurate. Progress payments were tied to actual work completed. Each update aligned with the contractor’s cost reports and TXDOT review cycles.

Meanwhile, Precision used historical data and field reports to forecast remaining durations. If trends suggested underperformance, the team adjusted projections accordingly. As a result, stakeholders received reliable schedule data each month.

Eventually, the integrated approach helped reduce surprises and kept the project on track. Overall, Scheduler and Project Controls played a critical role in managing complexity. By focusing on clear communication and real-time updates, Precision delivered consistent value.
