Overview:

The $400 million renovation and expansion of the Henry B. González Convention Center significantly upgraded San Antonio’s premier event venue. Effective project planning was crucial to modernizing the facility, expanding its capacity, and enhancing its functionality to support major national and international events.

The scope included new Exhibit Halls, a column-free Multi-Purpose Exhibit Ballroom, and a 55,000-square-foot Grand Ballroom. Additional upgrades featured modern Meeting Rooms, Administrative Offices, and essential Support Spaces. These improvements elevated the convention center’s capabilities and visitor experience.

Precision provided schedule oversight and project controls to support the timely delivery of this expansive renovation. From the beginning, we developed a detailed baseline schedule aligned with project milestones and stakeholder objectives.

Integrated CPM Schedule and Project Planning

Using CPM schedule methodology, Precision tracked progress across all construction zones. We analyzed float paths, monitored critical activities, and evaluated schedule impacts caused by design revisions or field conditions. This allowed for early detection of delays and prompt corrective actions.

Throughout construction, we maintained constant coordination with contractors and project managers. This collaboration helped prioritize tasks, streamline resource allocation, and align overlapping work packages. As a result, construction phases advanced without major disruptions or workflow bottlenecks.

Our project controls team also provided regular reporting to support informed decision-making. We ensured milestone integrity, validated progress percentages, and kept the project on track with accurate, timely data. This process built accountability and strengthened communication across all stakeholders.

Given the Convention Center’s operational schedule, construction occurred while portions of the facility remained active. Therefore, sequencing and phasing plans were essential. Precision’s schedule management supported the delivery of high-quality results without interfering with ongoing events.

In conclusion, Precision’s role in the Henry B. González Convention Center project ensured that the extensive renovation progressed efficiently and met critical deadlines. Our strategic use of CPM schedule techniques and robust project controls helped deliver a revitalized, world-class venue that now anchors San Antonio’s convention and tourism economy.
